Is my breastfeeding baby allergic to dairy?

Most babies have little or no problem with what their mums eat, so mums can eat literally anything while breastfeeding.

However, there is a little percentage of babies that will react to what their mum takes in as food, especially diary or literally anything made from cow milk.

Which means that baby is allergic to the protein casein, which is the main protein found in dairy products.

For example, adding milk to your oats, akamu, tea, or eating butter, yogurt etc. If your baby shows some of the signs like diarrhoea and vomiting, is extremely fussy during the day and has eczema on the face and chest, most likely your child has a milk allergy.

The good thing is, there are so many dairy free alternatives, from coconut milk, tigernut milk, oat milk for you as a mum to take while nursing. As you might have to breastfeed more than you intended as your baby may have issues digesting cow milk made from formula as well.

You child most definitely will outgrow it by the age of 5yrs…but at the moment, eliminating dairy from your diet as well as foods that contain dairy will be able to help you manage your baby at this time.

I hope this helped you
